Why Build a Bowling Lane at Home?

A private bowling lane transforms how you use your property. Whether you are building a dedicated bowling room, converting a basement, or adding a standalone shed, LaneCraft designs installations that fit the space and reflect the owner.

Every installation is completely custom. The lane finish, the UV pin lighting, the software interface, the game modes: everything is designed for your space and your preferences. And because we build the software ourselves, the experience keeps improving with regular updates and new games.

What You Get

Included in Every Installation

Custom Lane Design

Tenpin, Ninepin, or Kern. Lane lengths from 12 metres (Kern) to full regulation (18m). Every installation is designed for the specific room.

LaneCraft Software

16+ game modes with touchscreen control. Built from scratch using modern game development tools, with new games added through regular updates.

Designed to Fit

Lane surface finishes and UV pin lighting are chosen to complement your space. We coordinate with your architect or builder to integrate the lane into the broader design.

Built for Quiet

Lanes are fully isolated on rubber to minimise noise transfer. Electric bumper actuators instead of pneumatic. String pinsetters that draw less power than a kettle.

Kern Format

The best of Tenpin and Ninepin in a compact format. Lightweight, same-weight Kern Balls, a tenpin pin arrangement, and no gutters. A compact game that still feels big.

Ongoing Support

Software updates, new game modes, maintenance guidance, and technical support. Your installation keeps getting better over time.

The Process

How a Home Installation Works

  1. 1
Consultation and space assessment. We visit your property (or review plans for a new build), take measurements, and discuss lane format, finishes, and how the space will be used. If there is an architect or builder involved, we coordinate with them from this stage.
  2. 2
Design and fabrication. Lane surface, finishes, and software are specified to your requirements. Components are fabricated and the software is configured for your installation.
  3. 3
Installation and calibration. Our team handles the full installation: subfloor, lane surface, pinsetters, scoring console, and software. Everything is calibrated and tested before handover.
  4. 4
Ongoing support. Software updates, maintenance guidance, and technical support continue after installation. Your lane keeps improving over time.

Practical Details

What to Expect

A home bowling lane is a significant addition to a property. Here are the practical details that homeowners ask about most.

Where It Fits

Homeowners install lanes in dedicated bowling rooms, basements, converted garages, and purpose-built sheds. A full-length regulation Tenpin lane needs roughly 25.8 metres total (18m lane, 4.8m approach, and 3m machine room). Our compact Kern format works from around 12 metres of lane (roughly 18 metres total). Two lanes need approximately 3.7 metres of width. Minimum ceiling height is 2.1 metres above the lane surface. If you are building new, a slab set-down during construction gives the cleanest result.

Noise

The pinsetters are quiet (the motor only activates during resets), but bowling itself makes noise: balls rolling, pins falling, and the impact of a strike are all part of the experience. We install every lane fully isolated on rubber to minimise vibration and noise transfer through the structure. Where bumpers are fitted, we use electric actuators rather than pneumatic, eliminating the need for a compressor. If your bowling space shares walls with living areas, basic acoustic treatment is usually sufficient.

Maintenance

High-pressure laminate lane surfaces do not require sanding, oiling, or refinishing. Maintenance is periodic cleaning and annual mechanical servicing of the pinsetter. LaneCraft provides maintenance guidance and ongoing technical support for the life of the installation.

Running Costs

A two-lane system draws less power when running than a standard electric kettle (approximately 400W per lane motor). Pinsetters only activate during pin resets, so energy consumption outside active play is minimal. Ongoing costs are typically lower than maintaining a swimming pool: no chemicals, no heating, no seasonal maintenance.

How It Compares

A home bowling installation sits alongside a high-end home theatre or a modest swimming pool in terms of investment. The difference is that a bowling lane with LaneCraft software keeps improving: new game modes, new features, and new ways to play delivered through regular updates. A pool does not get new features in year three, but your bowling lane does.
